WORKSHOP ON LIBRARY INFORMATICS

Workshop on Library Informatics

The Department of Physical Science at Fathima Memorial Training College (FMTC), Mylapore, organized an enlightening Workshop on Library Informatics on 21 March 2025 at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall. The workshop was conducted with the objective of creating awareness about digital library resources and modern information management systems among students and teachers. The programme witnessed active participation from faculty members, students, and invited guests, making it both informative and engaging.
The workshop began with an inaugural session, which commenced with the recitation of Fathiha by Shahinamol S., followed by a prayer led by Minitha G. The Welcome Address was delivered by Mrs. Anupama M. R., Vice Principal, who highlighted the growing importance of library informatics in the contemporary educational landscape. The Principal, Dr. M. Omanaseelan, then introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. Sunny Joseph, UGC Librarian, Higher Education Department, Government of Kerala.
In his keynote address, Dr. Sunny Joseph delivered an insightful and informative session on the role of digital technologies in enhancing library services and supporting academic research. He elaborated on key components of Library Informatics, including digital repositories, open-access journals, citation management tools, and the application of technology in library operations. He emphasized the importance of developing digital literacy among students and researchers to effectively access, evaluate, and utilize scholarly information.
The session was followed by an interactive discussion, during which participants actively raised questions and shared their perspectives on the evolving role of libraries in the digital era. The discussion highlighted challenges related to digital resource management and explored effective strategies to address them, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of the contribution of digital libraries to academic growth and research excellence.
The workshop concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Krishnasree P. P., Vice Chairperson, who expressed sincere gratitude to the resource person, organizing committee, faculty members, and students for their cooperation and support. Overall, the workshop successfully promoted digital literacy and equipped participants with essential knowledge and skills to enhance their academic and research pursuits through effective use of library informatics.
