Fathima Memorial Training College, Mylapore, Umayanalloor, Kollam, celebrated World Poetry Day on 21 March 2025 with great enthusiasm and literary spirit. The programme was organized by the English Association – INKFLUENCERS (2024–25) with the aim of celebrating poetic expression and encouraging creative and critical engagement with literature among students.
The celebration commenced with the recitation of Surathul-Fatiha by Ms. Shefna M. S., invoking a reflective and artistic atmosphere. This was followed by a graceful prayer dance performed by the students of the English Department. Ms. Anamika B. S. extended a warm welcome to the gathering, setting the tone for the event. The programme was formally inaugurated by Principal Dr. M. Omanaseelan, who, in his inaugural address, emphasized the role of poetry in nurturing emotional sensitivity, creativity, and intellectual growth. Ms. Asha Rani P. and Ms. Amjatha Vahid offered words of appreciation, acknowledging the efforts of the organizers and participants.
One of the major highlights of the celebration was the Poetry Workshop conducted by alumnus Mr. Anandu A. The session was highly interactive and inspiring, motivating students to explore poetry writing and translation while gaining practical insights into poetic techniques and creative expression. The workshop encouraged participants to experiment with language and emotions, thereby enhancing their literary skills.
The programme also featured two inter-collegiate competitions—the Poetry Translation Competition and the Poetry Musical Fusion Competition. These events witnessed enthusiastic participation from various colleges, showcasing students’ linguistic competence, creativity, and artistic talent. Adding to the creative ambiance, a Poetry Wall was arranged, providing a platform for participants and attendees to display their original poetic compositions.
The celebration concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Riza Saijo, who expressed sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, resource person, faculty members, participants, and organizers for their support and contributions. Overall, the World Poetry Day celebration was a resounding success, enriching the campus with literary vibrancy and deepening students’ appreciation for poetry as a powerful form of cultural and artistic expression.
