Lesson: Get Together – The Youngbloods
Introduction
The second phase of my teaching practice began on 5th November 2025 at Govt. Model Boys HSS, Thevally. Returning to the same school brought back a sense of comfort, confidence, and excitement. I was eager to meet my students of class VIII A once again and apply the insights gained from my first phase. This week marked a fresh beginning with new goals — to enhance my teaching methods, build stronger classroom connections, and create a joyful learning atmosphere. The unit Fabric of Togetherness provided an ideal platform to foster values of unity, cooperation, and peace among students.
Day 1 – Back to 8A: New Phase, New Hopes (05.11.2025)
The first day of my second-phase teaching practice was filled with enthusiasm. Meeting my dear students again brought joy and warmth. I introduced the new unit Fabric of Togetherness and began the poem Get Together by The Youngbloods. The students participated actively in an interactive session that set a positive tone for the coming days. It was a promising start to the new phase of my teaching journey.
Self-Reflection:
I felt confident stepping back into the classroom. The students’ cooperation and attentiveness motivated me to perform better and manage the class effectively.
Reflection on Action:
The day reminded me of the importance of creating a friendly learning environment. The students’ enthusiasm encouraged me to keep improving my teaching approach.
Day 2 – Strengthening Bonds (06.11.2025)
On the second day, I continued teaching Get Together. The students showed great interest in the poem and shared thoughtful interpretations. Group discussions and question sessions helped them connect deeply with the theme. The classroom atmosphere was cheerful and filled with positive energy.
Self-Reflection:
I noticed an improvement in my classroom management skills. The students’ active participation made the session enjoyable, though I realized the need to involve quieter students more often.
Reflection on Action:
The day emphasized how meaningful classroom activities help students express themselves freely. It reflected the cooperative spirit of Get Together and inspired me to be more creative and reflective in my teaching.
Day 3 – Growing Connections (07.11.2025)
The third day was marked by smooth interaction and strong teacher–student rapport. Students recited the remaining stanzas of Get Together and took part in activities that highlighted unity and peace. Their creative responses showed their understanding of the poem’s deeper meaning.
Self-Reflection:
I felt happy and confident as students engaged enthusiastically. I managed the class with ease and maintained their attention throughout the lesson.
Reflection on Action:
The experience taught me that preparation and positive classroom relationships are essential for effective teaching. The cooperative learning atmosphere made the day both productive and fulfilling.
Conclusion
The first week of my second-phase teaching practice was a meaningful and memorable beginning. It strengthened my connection with students and deepened my understanding of classroom dynamics. Teaching Get Together helped me promote values of love, peace, and unity, while also improving my confidence and reflective thinking. Each day offered new learning experiences, motivating me to continue growing as a dedicated and creative teacher.
