Fathima Memorial Training College (FMTC), Mylapore, marked a significant step towards environmental responsibility with the official inauguration of its Eco Club on 18 March 2025. The programme, jointly organized by the Departments of Physical Science and Natural Science, was held at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall with the objective of fostering environmental awareness and promoting sustainable practices within the campus.
The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and invited guests. The programme was efficiently anchored by Vaishnavi and Febia, who ensured the smooth flow of the ceremony. The inauguration began with the recitation of Fathiha by Anciya J., followed by a prayer rendered by Kavya Venu and Sreelekshmi, setting a solemn and reflective tone for the occasion.
In her Welcome Address, Mrs. Sreekala P., Programme Coordinator, emphasized the importance of nurturing environmental consciousness among future educators and outlined the mission of the Eco Club in promoting sustainable living. This was followed by the Presidential Address delivered by Vice Principal Mrs. Anupama, who highlighted the urgent need for ecological preservation in the face of growing environmental challenges.
The Eco Club was formally inaugurated by Principal Dr. M. Omanaseelan, who unveiled the club’s official logo and encouraged the FMTC community to work collectively towards environmental protection. A key highlight of the programme was the introduction of the Eco Club logo titled “Enviro Ed”, symbolizing a globe encircled by green leaves, representing the harmonious integration of education and ecology. The mission statement of the club, “Educate, Empower, and Sustain,” was also presented, clearly defining the club’s vision and objectives.
The programme continued with felicitations by Mrs. Anamika B. S. (Assistant Professor) and Krishnasree (Vice Chairperson), who motivated students to actively engage in eco-friendly initiatives and responsible environmental practices. A cultural segment followed, featuring nature-themed performances that creatively conveyed the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability.
The formal session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Zigma Benhur, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, student organizers, and participants for their valuable contributions to the success of the event.
The second session of the programme featured a brainstorming discussion on the Eco Campus initiative, where students and teachers shared practical ideas such as tree plantation drives, effective waste management systems, and the adoption of sustainable campus practices. This interactive discussion laid a strong foundation for the future activities of the Eco Club.
In conclusion, the inauguration of the Eco Club at FMTC was an inspiring and meaningful event that marked the beginning of a collective journey towards a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable campus, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
