Weekly Reflection – Eighth Week

The eighth week of my teaching practice, held from 22nd to 26th September 2025, was a vibrant and multifaceted phase. I introduced and taught the prose lesson “Talking of Science”, an excerpt from an interview with Dr. Ajith Padmanabhan. The unit titled The Trail of Science brought a refreshing shift of theme, focusing on curiosity, inquiry, and the value of scientific thinking. The week was not only marked by classroom teaching but also enriched with experience such as a school extension activity, a sub-district IT Quiz. This diverse engagement deepened my exposure to both academic and co-curricular aspects of school life.



Day 29 (22nd September, 2025)

The day began with enthusiasm as I introduced the unit The Trail of Science. I gave a short introduction about the lesson “Talking of Science” and the renowned scientist Dr. Ajith Padmanabhan. The students listened keenly as I highlighted the importance of questioning and scientific curiosity. They showed eagerness to know more about the interview format and the scientist’s insights. The initial interaction was promising and set a strong foundation for the rest of the lesson.

Day 30 (23rd September, 2025)

The day was a special one, as I got the opportunity to accompany the students of Govt. Model Boys’ HSS, Thevally, to Govt. HSS Vallikkezhu for the Sub-District IT Quiz Mela in the morning. Observing the event gave me insights into how competitions foster healthy academic spirit among students. In the afternoon, I returned to school and continued with the lesson “Talking of Science”. The students engaged with the content actively and related the discussion to their own learning experiences. It turned out to be a day of both external exposure and regular classroom enrichment.

Day 31 (24th September, 2025)

The day began smoothly and grew into a rewarding teaching session. I carried forward the lesson “Talking of Science”, explaining the second portion in detail. Students listened attentively and shared their own thoughts on how science impacts daily life. Their reflections showed that the theme of inquiry encouraged them to think beyond the textbook. The interaction was lively and the students’ responses enriched the session.

Day 32 (25th September, 2025)

The day unfolded with energy and focus. I taught the next portion of “Talking of Science”, guiding students through comprehension and vocabulary tasks. They participated enthusiastically and demonstrated curiosity by connecting the discussion to their surroundings. Their willingness to engage reflected the effectiveness of the theme. By the end of the class, I felt a sense of satisfaction in witnessing their active involvement in learning.

Conclusion

The eighth week of teaching practice was a blend of academic and co-curricular learning. Their active participation made the lessons engaging and thought-provoking. Beyond classroom teaching, the Sub-District IT Quiz  provided opportunities to observe how schools foster holistic development. These experiences, combined with regular teaching, enriched my role as a teacher-in-training and strengthened my understanding of the balance between academic instruction and co-curricular activities.

Weekly Reflection – Seventh Week

The seventh week of my teaching practice, held from 15th to 17th September 2025, was short but productive. During this phase, I completed teaching the autobiographical lesson “The Day My World Changed” by Malala Yousafzai. The students showed keen interest as the lesson progressed, and their reflections indicated how much they admired Malala’s courage. By the 16th, I finished the chapter, ensuring the students had a clear understanding of the text. On the 17th, I conducted various activities related to the lesson, which encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and personal expression. Though the week had fewer working days, it was meaningful and impactful.



Day 26 (15th September, 2025)

The day began with a positive learning atmosphere. I continued teaching the remaining part of “The Day My World Changed.” The students actively followed the narration and asked thoughtful questions about Malala’s struggles and bravery. Their interest highlighted the relevance of the lesson in shaping values of resilience and determination. By the end of the session, I felt that the students were connecting personally with the story’s message.

Day 27 (16th September, 2025)

On this day, I successfully completed the rest of the chapter. The students were attentive throughout and engaged in discussions on how Malala’s life reflects the power of education and courage. Their responses showed deep admiration and empathy. Completing the lesson gave me satisfaction, as I could see how it influenced their perspectives. It was a fulfilling session that strengthened my teaching experience.

Day 28 (17th September, 2025)

This day was fully dedicated to the activities of the lesson. The students participated eagerly in writing profiles, reflections, and creative responses based on Malala’s life. Some students wrote inspiring notes on their own dreams and aspirations. The activities not only helped in reinforcing the lesson but also brought out the creativity and individuality of each student. The day concluded with a sense of accomplishment, as the objectives of teaching and learning were met effectively.

The sixth week of my teaching practice, held from 8th to 12th September 2025, was an engaging and deeply meaningful phase. Coming back after the Onam vacation, the classrooms were filled with renewed energy and curiosity. I introduced and taught the autobiographical lesson “The Day My World Changed” by Malala Yousafzai. The lesson’s theme of courage and resilience resonated well with the students, sparking thoughtful discussions. Beyond classroom teaching, I actively participated in serving the mid-day meal, which strengthened my rapport with students. The week also marked a surprise principal’s visit and an insightful parent-teacher meeting, enriching my overall experience.



Day 21 (8th September, 2025)

The day began with refreshing post-vacation enthusiasm, and the school atmosphere felt vibrant. In my allotted session, I introduced the new lesson “The Day My World Changed” by Malala Yousafzai. The students listened with interest as I narrated the background of Malala’s courage and determination. They engaged actively with the text, asking questions and sharing their views. Later, I helped in serving the mid-day meal, which gave me another chance to connect with them personally. It was a rewarding day that reminded me of the power of education in shaping young minds.

Day 22 (9th September, 2025)

The day started on a calm note and grew into a meaningful learning experience. I continued teaching “The Day My World Changed” and encouraged students to reflect on the challenges Malala faced. Their eagerness to respond showed how much the lesson inspired them. In the afternoon, our respected principal, Dr. M. Omanaseelan Sir, made a surprise visit. His presence added motivation, and his feedback was encouraging. The students remained disciplined and enthusiastic, which made the session smooth and interactive. It ended as a fruitful day that enhanced both my teaching confidence and classroom rapport.

Day 23 (10th September, 2025)

They were enthusiastic in responding and were able to relate Malala’s bravery to their own lives. The interaction was rich and thought-provoking. Later, I joined in serving the mid-day meal, which helped me strengthen my bond with the school community. The combination of academic teaching and personal involvement made the day fulfilling, leaving me with a sense of contentment as it concluded.

The students responded thoughtfully, showing maturity in their reflections. Their active participation made the classroom lively and interactive. After the teaching session, I helped in serving the mid-day meal, which once again fostered a sense of connection with the learners beyond academics. The day ended on a rewarding note, combining meaningful teaching and warm interactions.

Day 25 (12th September, 2025)

Their responses reflected genuine understanding. Later, I assisted in serving the mid-day meal, which was again a heartwarming experience. In the afternoon, I attended a parent-teacher meeting organized by the school. Observing the discussions helped me understand the significance of school-home collaboration in shaping students’ growth. It was a meaningful day where teaching, service, and learning about school-community ties came together.

Serving the mid-day meals nurtured my bond with the learners beyond academics, allowing me to understand them as individuals. The surprise visit of our principal provided guidance and encouragement, while the parent-teacher meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration in education. Overall, the week deepened my confidence and reinforced my commitment to teaching.

The third week of teaching practice, though limited to just two days—July 31st and August 1st, 2025—was truly enriching. The classroom atmosphere was vibrant, with students showing keen interest and active participation, especially during grammar sessions on auxiliary verbs and question tags. Using activity charts and cards, I transformed grammar into an engaging experience. Their enthusiasm reaffirmed the joy of teaching. I also had the heartwarming opportunity to assist in serving the noon meal, strengthening my bond with the school community. These two days boosted my confidence, improved my content delivery, and deepened the connection I share with my students.


Day 9 ( 31st July, 2025 )

The day began with the serene rhythm of the school prayer, setting a positive tone. I had a substitution class with 8A in the first period, where I revised previously taught lessons. The students were attentive and responsive. During my allotted fifth period after lunch, I introduced the concept of auxiliary verbs using well-prepared charts featuring positive and negative exemplars. The students grasped the concept quickly and completed the activity cards with enthusiasm and accuracy. Their eagerness to learn made the teaching process truly enjoyable. It was a fulfilling and pleasant day, where meaningful learning and joyful teaching seamlessly blended.

Day 10 ( 1st August, 2025 )

Day 10 was both productive and pleasant, filled with active learning and joyful interaction. I took my allotted class in 8A, where the students were eager to learn about question tags. I introduced the concept using engaging charts, explained the rules, and demonstrated examples to make it clear. Each student then got a chance to frame their own sentence along with an appropriate question tag on the board. Their enthusiasm and participation were remarkable. The class was lively, interactive, and deeply engaging. This session not only enhanced their understanding but also strengthened my connection with the students. It was truly a wonderful day.

The students responded with enthusiasm and showed genuine interest in learning. These days helped me build stronger rapport with the learners and boosted my confidence in classroom management and content delivery. Overall, it was a fulfilling week that reinforced my passion for teaching and deepened my connection with the teaching-learning process.

Weekly Reflection - Second week

The second week of my teaching practice was marked by pleasant weather and productive classroom interactions. Though the week began with intermittent rains, it did not hinder the attendance or enthusiasm of the students. On all four working days, students were present and active in the learning process.

During this week, I continued teaching the English lesson "The Little Things Matter" by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. I was able to successfully complete the textual activities associated with the lesson. Additionally, I conducted various language-based activities that helped enhance the students’ vocabulary and comprehension. These included group discussions, sentence-building exercises, and quick response games.

The students showed keen interest and participated enthusiastically in all the activities. Their active involvement made the teaching-learning experience more engaging and meaningful. I also tried to improve my classroom management strategies and time management skills.

Each day of this week contributed to my growth as a teacher. I was able to build better rapport with the students and improve my confidence in delivering lessons more effectively.


Day 5 ( 21st July, 2025 )

The day began on a warm and pleasant note with the school prayer, setting a positive tone for the day. It was a meaningful experience overall, as I had the opportunity to interact with new students. These interactions helped me understand their interests and learning styles better, which added great value to my teaching journey.

I handled my regularly allotted class effectively and was also assigned a substitution duty. Both sessions gave me valuable chances to observe student behavior in different classroom settings and independently manage the class. I was able to complete the content effectively and conduct the discourse activity with good student participation. It was a fulfilling and productive day that contributed to my personal and professional growth as a teacher.

Day 6 ( 23rd July, 2025 )

The day began on a pleasant and productive note. I had the first period in class VIII A, where I continued with the lesson “Little Things Matter” and completed the planned content. The students were attentive, interactive, and enthusiastic, which made the session lively and smooth. Their responses indicated that they were clearly grasping the topic well, especially the values embedded in small yet meaningful acts.

Later in the day, I was assigned a substitution duty, giving me a chance to engage with a different group of students. This turned out to be a truly enjoyable experience, as the students were well-behaved and responded smartly to my instructions.

Overall, Day 6 was a positive and satisfying experience. I felt more confident and fulfilled as a teacher, especially seeing students actively participating in both the lesson and the discourse activity. It was heartening to witness their understanding of how small actions can lead to big impacts — the very message Dr. Kalam so powerfully conveyed.

Day 7 (25th July, 2025)

Day 7 was both pleasant and productive. I was allotted duty in class VIII A, where I guided the students through the textual activities related to the lesson “Little Things Matter.” The students responded actively and participated well, showing a clear understanding of the concepts discussed.

Later, I was assigned a substitution duty in Class 5. The younger students were energetic and curious, and I truly enjoyed the experience of engaging with a new branch of learners. This interaction allowed me to adapt my approach and connect with students of a different age group.

Day 8 ( 26th July, 2025 )

Today was a rainy Saturday, and the attendance was a bit low. However, the class that was present remained focused and interactive. I was able to complete the textual activities and smoothly introduce the concept of conditionals, explaining both Type 1 and Type 2 in a simple and understandable manner.

The students showed genuine interest and participated actively in the follow-up activities related to the topic. Despite the bad weather and low classroom strength, it turned out to be a pleasant and fulfilling teaching day, reminding me once again that quality learning can happen even in quiet classrooms.

As part of my B.Ed. curriculum at Fathima Memorial Training College, Mylapore, Kollam, I began my teaching practice at Govt. Model Boys HSS, Kollam on 14th July 2025. From the very first day, the school welcomed us with warmth and positivity. The atmosphere was encouraging, the teachers were extremely supportive, and the overall environment created a space where both students and trainee teachers could thrive.


Day 1 (14th july,2025)
 
 I stepped into the classroom with a heart full of excitement and a fair share of nervousness. My first class was during the fifth period, right after the lunch break, with Class 8A. The experience of facing students for the first time made me understand the seriousness and responsibility of being a teacher. Though I was anxious, the teachers in the school guided us and created a sense of belonging. I started the lesson " Little Things Matter" by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. By the end of the day, I felt more confident and deeply motivated to improve.

Day 2 (15th july ,2025)

 I continued the lesson “Little Things Matter” by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. I gave them some intresting games and later read the text with appropriate stress and intonation, and ensured that the meaning was conveyed clearly. I used flashcards to explain new vocabulary and made learning more interactive through activity cards, which the students enjoyed. Their active participation and positive responses helped me feel more in control and affirmed that I was on the right track.

Day 3 (16th july,2025)
   
 I felt a growing sense of rhythm. I continued with the lesson, reinforcing concepts and encouraging student interaction. The learning environment was collaborative and I was able to handle the class more effectively, addressing doubts and completing the day’s objectives. My confidence had clearly improved, and I began to enjoy the process of teaching and learning with the students.

Day 4 (17th july,2025)

This day brought a new experience as I was given substitution duty and got the opportunity to supervise both Class 6 and Class 8. Managing students outside of my planned lessons taught me about flexibility and classroom presence. In my regular session with Class 8A, I introduced new vocabulary through engaging tasks and observed how the students were becoming more responsive.

Tharanga- arts festival

Fathima Memorial Training College, Mylapore, came alive with colors, rhythm, and artistic brilliance during the Arts Festival 2025, held on February 24th and 25th. Organized by the Tharanga Arts Club under the vibrant College Union, the two-day event featured electrifying performances, energetic competitions, and spectacular showcases of talent across music, dance, drama, and visual arts.

For me, this festival was more than just an event—it was a journey of self-discovery. I had the privilege of winning prizes in various individual as well as group items, which filled me with immense joy and pride. It was truly the best platform that brought out the finest in me, helping me explore my hidden potential and gain confidence in my creative abilities.
With the spirit of unity and joy lighting up the campus, students embraced their artistic sides and celebrated the essence of expression. The festival stood as a dazzling blend of tradition and modern flair—an unforgettable experience for all!
