Creative Practice on Ozone Layer Depletion at Fathima Memorial Training College, Mylapore Kollam
On 2nd September, 2024, Fathima Memorial Training College in Mylapore, Kollam, conducted a creative practice session focused on the critical issue of ozone layer depletion. The event featured a thought-provoking video titled "The Future of Our Planet: Addressing Ozone Layer Depletion," which highlighted the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to this pressing environmental concern.
The video illustrated the role of the ozone layer in protecting life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation and explained how human activities, particularly the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), have contributed to its depletion. It emphasized the detrimental effects of increased UV exposure, including higher rates of skin cancer, cataracts, and negative impacts on ecosystems.
Following the video presentation, students presented brief summaries, capturing the essential messages conveyed in the film. They discussed the importance of international efforts, such as the Montreal Protocol, in phasing out ozone-depleting substances and the positive signs of recovery observed in the ozone layer.
The session sparked meaningful conversations among students about their roles in protecting the environment and the significance of sustainable practices. Overall, the creative practice not only raised awareness about ozone layer depletion but also inspired a collective commitment to environmental stewardship.
