Creative practice on "A well educated mind vs A well formed mind"

Creative Practice: "A Well Educated Mind vs. A Well Formed Mind" at Fathima Memorial Training College

On August 30th , 2024, Fathima Memorial Training College in Mylapore, Kollam, hosted a thought-provoking creative practice session centered on the theme "A Well Educated Mind vs. A Well Formed Mind." The highlight of the event was the screening of a TED Talk by Sri Shashi Tharoor, who eloquently discussed the distinctions between education and formation of character.

In his talk, Tharoor emphasized that a well-educated mind is characterized by knowledge acquisition and intellectual development, while a well-formed mind integrates values, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. He argued that education alone is insufficient if it does not cultivate wisdom, empathy, and a sense of responsibility towards society.

Following the video presentation, students, including myself, shared brief summaries that captured Tharoor's key points. We discussed how education should not only aim to produce knowledgeable individuals but also well-rounded citizens who can contribute positively to the community. This discussion resonated with the audience, reinforcing the idea that true education encompasses both intellectual growth and personal development.

The session successfully stimulated meaningful dialogue among students about the holistic nature of education, inspiring us to pursue learning that fosters both intellect and character.
